(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota voters are likely to vote on an abortion rights state constitutional amendment in November 2024. The state Attorney General has finalized the title and explanation for the amendment, which underwent review and was open for public comment earlier this month. Groups opposed to abortion joined many Republican lawmakers who argued that the first draft was too broad and not accurate. The explanation was revised to say that it would establish a right to abortion in the state’s constitution and “provides a legal framework for the regulation of abortion.”
