(Sioux Falls, SD) — A slow medical marijuana licensing process is leading to a bottleneck for cultivators and dispensaries in South Dakota. Cultivators say the licensing process along takes about six months, slowing the building process that doesn’t happen until licenses are obtained. Supply chain issues for building materials add to delays before the minimum three-month growing process can begin. Medical marijuana became legal in July 2021, meaning cultivators who received the earliest licenses will begin opening toward the end of 2022.
