Rosebud Sioux Tribe Reaches Settlement Agreement With ND SOS Office

(Pierre, SD) — Recent court documents show the Rosebud Sioux Tribe has reached a settlement agreement with the State of South Dakota on a 2020 lawsuit. The lawsuit alleged the Secretary of State’s office was among other agencies that failed to reduce barriers to voting for indigenous people. The secretary’s office has agreed to appoint a statewide National Voting Rights Act coordinator to ensure state and county election officials comply with federal law. The Department of Public Safety and the Department of Social Services will also have NVRA coordinators.
