(Pierre, SD) — The governor’s office says Kristi Noem’s powers were not transferred while she underwent surgery for a spinal injury. Noem’s office says she “was always in power” even as she had back surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Noem says she will continue with her re-election campaign with some physical limitations. South Dakota law doesn’t require the governor to transfer powers to the lieutenant governor if they are ill or under anesthesia.
