(Aberdeen, SD) — The first public hearing for the proposed South Dakota social studies standards is being held this morning in Aberdeen. Those wanting to speak about the standards had to register by Friday afternoon. Hundreds have already submitted written comments online. The 120-page social studies standards proposal has generated controversy related to a debate over Critical Race Theory and after an outside consultant was hired to lead the committee setting the policies.
