(Rapid City, SD) — The Rapid City Fire Department says people at an “un-permitted” camp are responsible for setting off a grass fire in the city. The blaze burned on Neptune Drive and East Signal Drive yesterday, spreading quickly and threatening homes. Rapid City Police evacuated an area near the fire. Crews were able to extinguish the flames before any structures were affected. Officials say dry conditions, hot weather, and winds were also factors in the spread of the blaze.
