Police Investigate Hoax Active Shooter Calls Across South Dakota

(Brookings, SD) — Police in Brookings and across South Dakota are investigating a wave of fake active shooter calls that were called into schools yesterday. Police in Brookings say the hoax call was made to the high school. Schools in Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Watertown and Mitchell were also the targets of prank calls. Police say they don’t think the calls originated in South Dakota. The calls came the same day that the shooter in the massacre at Parkland High School in Florida received a life sentence for killing 17 students and teachers and injuring 17 more four years ago.
