DOJ Sues Rapid City Hotel Over Discrimination

(Rapid City, SD) — The Department of Justice is suing a Rapid City hotel and casino over alleged discrimination against Native Americans. Federal prosecutors claim Grand Gateway Hotel and Cheers Sports Lounge and Casino prohibited Native American customers from staying on the property. The department accuses defendants Retsel Corporation, Connie Uhre, and Nicholas Uhrehas of violating Native Americans’ civil rights since at least March 20th. In a Facebook post from that day, Connie Uhre posted that the hotel and bar “will no long[er] allow any Native Americans.”
