(Cincinnati, OH) — It was a scary moment for players, coaches and fans watching Monday Night Football. Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field after taking a hard hit on a tackle attempt in the first quarter. Hamlin was seen falling to the ground after the play and the medical team quickly went to work on the field. Hamlin received CPR on the field before he was rushed to a local hospital where is listed in critical condition. The game was postponed by the NFL.
The Buffalo Bills have released a statement about safety Damar Hamlin. The team said Hamlin “suffered a cardiac arrest” following a hit in Monday’s game against the Bengals in Cincinnati. The statement went on to say “His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.”
A marketing rep and friend of Bills’ safety Damar Hamlin says his vitals are back to normal. Jordon Rooney posted on Twitter that Hamlin was put to sleep and a breathing tube was inserted, and doctors are currently running tests.
NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent spoke with reporters on a conference call Monday night and added that it never crossed the league’s mind to resume the game after Hamlin collapsed. Hamlin was rushed to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
Fans have reached out to offer support in any way they can for Hamlin and his family, flooding a GoFundMe page set up to benefit his mother’s daycare with donations, now up over three-million dollars.
