(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota transportation officials say snow plow crews set a record last month for the number of people rescued during a winter storm. According to transportation department historical records, snow plows rescued 50 people during the height of the mid-December storm — the greatest number of rescues ever recorded in the state. Department officials say hundreds of vehicles were stranded during the storm last month — but not all were abandoned. They say the rescues came from motorists left stranded in their vehicles.
