9 State Economic Survey Showing Bad Signs for Midwest Economy

(Midwest) — A new nine-state survey shows bad news for the Midwest economy.

Creighton University Economist Ernie Goss said 63 percent of employers report a shortage of applicants for open positions. The survey indicates there are about 213 thousand fewer employees in the workforce than there were before the pandemic.

60 percent of supply managers in nine states say they expect a recession in 2023.

Goss said the recent survey shows the Midwest economy falling below growth-neutral and reporting the lowest numbers since the start of the pandemic.
