(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota Secretary of State Monae Johnson says she wants to form a “summer study” committee to focus on election security. The committee would be made up of county auditors, state lawmakers, Secretary of State’s office staff, and others. Johnson said yesterday that she believes South Dakota has free and fair elections and that she doesn’t want to hand count every ballot despite previously made comments. South Dakota is one of a few states that doesn’t currently conduct a post-election audit.
