(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota Department of Corrections Secretary Kellie Wasko is updating lawmakers on staffing at the state’s prisons. Wasko spoke to the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday, briefing them on corrections worker conditions. She addressed high turnover rates at the Sioux Falls male prison. The secretary is also asking the Legislature for 60-million dollars for a new women’s prison in Rapid City and 340-million for a new men’s facility.
