(Minneapolis, MN) — A former Minneapolis cop serving time for the murder of George Floyd wants a new trial. Derek Chauvin’s attorneys will be in court today to make the request, arguing his 2021 trial was unfair because it was held in Hennepin County, where Minneapolis is. Chauvin was sentenced to 22 years behind bars for Floyd’s death in May 2020, which kicked off racial justice protests across the nation. The Minnesota Court of Appeals will have 90 days to make a ruling.
