(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota lawmakers are considering a bill that would eliminate medical treatment allowing children to transition to the opposite sex. The Help Not Harm bill was introduced yesterday and would also allow children who had been through gender reassignment treatment the chance to sue providers in the future. Supporters say children can’t consent to the life-changing treatment. Opponents say gender-affirming treatment is essential health care. Similar bills have failed in previous sessions.
