(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota lawmakers are considering a bill that would ban the use of state funds and resources to put on drag shows. The bill was filed yesterday by Republican Representative Chris Karr. The measure would prohibit public schools, colleges and universities, along with state agencies from using public money or state owned facilities or property to “develop, implement, facilitate, host, promote, or fund any lewd or lascivious content.” The measure was proposed months after a student organization at South Dakota State University hosted a drag show on campus. SDSU President Barry Dunn says no university funds supported the event.
