(Minneapolis, MN) — The death of Tyre Nichols at the hands of Memphis Police is hitting close to home in Minneapolis. Law enforcement experts have drawn comparisons to the murder of George Floyd in 2020. In a statement, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said one difference is “there seems to be a real appetite for prosecutors and police departments to hold police accountable when they’ve exceeded the bounds of the law.” All five officers involved in the death of Nichols have been charged with murder. That’s compared to when only former Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin [[ sho-vin ]] faced a murder charge in Floyd’s death.
