(Pierre, SD) — A South Dakota lawmaker says the state’s most precious monument is being threatened. Representative Dusty Johnson has been trying to pass the Mount Rushmore Protection Act for several years. However, previous bills have stalled in committee. Johnson says he hopes that will change this year. His bill would prevent the monument from being renamed or altered. He says his goal is to protect the shrine of democracy for generations to come.
