(Rapid City, SD) — Investigators from the state Division of Criminal Investigation are trying to learn why an inmate at the Pennington County Jail died in his cell this week. Authorities say the inmate — identified as a 56-year-old Native American — died sometime late Tuesday night or early yesterday morning. He had been booked into the jail Tuesday night on a disorderly conduct charge. Investigators say preliminary results indicate death by natural causes. Final test results on his body are pending.
