(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota lawmakers are considering a proposal to restrict the purchase of agricultural land by foreign countries. Governor Noem says the bill would protect South Dakota land and “our nation’s food supply.” South Dakota’s sole U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson has also co-sponsored two bills aimed at protecting U.S. farmland from the Chinese Communist party. Twelve other states have passed laws restricting the ownership of agricultural land by foreign countries.
