Proposed Property Tax Cut Moving Forward

(Pierre, SD) — A proposal that would reduce property taxes allocated for K through 12 schools is moving through the Legislature. The House Taxation Committee unanimously endorsed a bill yesterday that would provide homeowners with a 100-thousand dollar exemption from the statewide general school levy for homes they occupy. The bill will now head to the House Appropriation Committee for further consideration. Two proposed sales tax cuts are also under consideration.
