(Wannaska, MN) — A bear is okay after being rescued from an icy culvert. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says the male black bear was hibernating in a ditch alongside a road near Wannaska when it became stuck for three days after melting snow flooded the culvert. The approximately 400-pound bear was anesthetized before conservation officers, a bear biologist, and a Roseau County deputy dug the bear out. A land owner joined the effort and lent a cargo net to help lift the bear onto the nearby road. The bear was safely relocated to a state sanctuary near Thief Lake.
