(Pierre, SD) — A House committee is blocking an effort to apply for an Article Five Convention of States. The resolution would have made South Dakota the 20th state to call for the move, which would impose fiscal, power, and jurisdictional limits on the federal government. The prime sponsor says he will make an effort to “smoke out” the bill by getting enough votes to force the committee to send the bill to the floor. Many lawmakers fear a convention of states could get out of control.
