(Pierre, SD) — A South Dakota Senate committee is advancing a bill that would ban legislative spouses from being employed as lobbyists. The Senate State Affairs Committee passed the bill yesterday with only one dissenting vote. The bill would apply to spouses of active members of the state House and Senate. The bill’s sponsor says spouses who are lobbyists would have an “undisputable advantage” compared with other lobbyists and the general public.
