(Pierre, SD) — Congress is considering a measure introduced by South Dakota U.S. Senator John Thune that would change laws governing fentanyl-related lawsuits. The Justice Against Sponsors of Illicit Fentanyl Act would allow fentanyl victims and their survivors to bring civil suits against countries that supposedly enable the trafficking of the drug into the U.S. The bill would also eliminate immunity protections for foreign countries that assist in trafficking. A similar law allows civil claims for physical injuries to people and property that result from international terror attacks inside the U.S.
