(Bismarck, ND) — What could be the most expensive bill in North Dakota’s history is advancing in the state legislature. House Bill 1040 is one of three pieces of legislation to reimburse the state’s pension plan that is currently one-point-eight billion dollars in the hole. The five-and-a-half billion dollar bill puts the state back on track to repay the debt over the next 20 years. Opponents fear the cost is too large a burden on the state at half a billion dollars every two years.
