(Washington, DC) — President Biden is okaying a disaster declaration following a series of severe winter storms that hit South Dakota in December. White House officials announced the approval yesterday. The declaration allows the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide federal funding to state, tribal, and eligible local governments. Governor Kristi Noem’s office estimates the damage to public infrastructure from the storms at over two-point-four million dollars.
