(Pierre, SD) — The South Dakota Senate is advancing two bills that would provide funding for two new prisons in the state. The bills passed yesterday with near-unanimous support. One would fund the construction of a women’s prison in Rapid City. The other would allow the purchase of land in Sioux Falls and the design of a new men’s state penitentiary. The bills are headed to Governor Kristi Noem’s desk for final approval. Both projects were included in Noem’s session-opening budget address.
