(Rapid City, SD) — The Rapid City Common Council is standing against Governor Kristi Noem’s controversial Social Studies standards. The council passed a resolution to oppose the standards Monday, with supporters saying the standards were too divisive and didn’t involve any input from South Dakota teachers. Those against the resolution say the city doesn’t have any standing to take up the issue. A tie vote was broken by Mayor Steve Allender, who voted for the resolution, saying the city needed to stand with educators.
