(Washington, DC) — Congressman Dusty Johnson is sponsoring a bill that would expand work requirements for federal nutrition aid. The South Dakota Republican introduced the America Works Act of 2023 on Tuesday. The bill would require able-bodied adults without dependents to work or participate in work training or education programs for at least 20 hours per week to receive continuous support from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. SNAP benefits would expire after three months over the course of three years for those who don’t meet work requirements.
