MN Archdiocese Says Probe Into Former Archbishop Finds No Criminal Behavior

(St. Paul, MN) — The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis says an investigation into the behavior of a former archbishop has found nothing criminal in his actions. A statement released Friday said the Vatican probe into former Archbishop John Niensedt found he took some “imprudent” actions but that nothing he did needed further investigation. Pope Francis has imposed some administrative sanctions against Niensedt, including barring him from living in the Province of St. Paul and Minneapolis, which includes the entire state of Minnesota. Niensetdt resigned as archbishop eight years ago after being accused of covering up allegations of sexual misconduct by a priest.
