(Tappen, ND) — A grain elevator fire in Tappen has left a local flaxseed business devastated. The fire began burning Sunday morning, and firefighters battled the blaze all day and overnight before it was finally under control by Monday. Fire crews still remained on scene to extinguish hot spots. The grain elevator was used by North Dakota Innovations to store flaxseed for nutritional products, and the blaze completely destroyed the structure and everything inside. Tappen Mayor Brice Barnick said the elevator had been there for more than 100 years and called it a sad day for the community.
