(Pierre, SD) — The South Dakota Department of Health is going to pay a Sioux Falls-based transgender advocacy group three-hundred-thousand dollars. It’s the result of a lawsuit between Transformation Project and the state that began last year. The organization sued after the state made a decision to cancel a contract with the group that created a community health worker position using federal grant money. Attorneys for the Transformation Project say it was an act of discrimination. The Department of Health issued an apology, the settlement agreement is more than double the original contract and covers attorney fees.
