Lake Ice Thinner Than Usual In North Dakota

(Jamestown, ND) — Thin lake ice from this year’s mild winter has been a bummer for many ice fishermen across North Dakota. The Jamestown Rural Fire Department’s 16th Annual Ice Fishing Tournament was scheduled to take place on Saturday, but thin ice forced organizers to cancel the event. Jamestown locals say the ice is typically up to 20 inches thick this time of year, but is as thin as 6 inches in some spots. People living near Devils Lake say the ice is unusually thin there too.
