Man In Custody After Sioux Falls Homicide

(Pierre, SD) — A man is now in custody after the surprising news of Sioux Falls’ first reported homicide of the year. Thirty-eight-year-old Edward Brinkley is charged with murder and is being held on a million-dollar cash-only bond. Sioux Falls Police identified the victim yesterday as Richard Sowers, a 28-year-old Sioux Falls resident. According to court documents, security cameras outside nearby businesses were key in the arrest, showing when Sowers came back to his second-floor apartment at the 200 block of East 12th Street with two women. Then, Brinkley came up just over 20 minutes later. The women identified Brinkley after police showed them a photo lineup. Brinkley, who already has a lengthy criminal record, allegedly shot Sowers multiple times. The motive is still under investigation.
