Mitchell City Election Races Likely To Have Recounts

(Mitchell, SD) — Vote recounts are likely coming for two races in Mitchell’s city election after Primary Day. The final results for Mitchell’s next mayor revealed only 57 votes separate the top two candidates — Jordan Hanson and Terry Sabers. Incumbent mayor Bob Everson came in well behind by nearly a thousand votes. Mitchell voters also appear to be split about a bond issue to make improvements to Lake Mitchell. Approval for a plan to provide funds for the Lake Mitchell project, which included dredging to help reduce high algae levels, was split by just 30 votes. The South Dakota Secretary of State’s Office notes such small differences in these races will likely call for recounts.
