(Sioux Falls, SD) — Damage from Hurricane Beryl is being blamed for Tuesday night’s statewide 911 outages. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Mike Gramlick says city officials were told by the Lumen, the telecom company that provides 911 service to Sioux Falls, that damage to the network infrastructure caused the outage. There were two outages — one began just before 7 p.m. Tuesday and lasted until after 9. The second lasted from around 10:15 until just before 2 a.m. Gramlick says in roughly six hours of down time, Sioux Falls was still able to follow up on the 522 calls for service that came in.
