Opening Ceremony Kicks Off Paris Olympics

(Paris) — The Paris Olympics are officially underway following yesterday’s Opening Ceremony. LeBron James and Coco Gauff served as flagbearers for the U.S. The Opening Ceremony featured a number of performances from the likes of Celine Dion and Lady Gaga. It was held on the River Seine in Paris, with French athletes Marie-José Pérec and Teddy Riner lighting the flame.
The action kicks into full swing today with the first medals up for grabs. Seven-time Olympic gold medalist Caeleb Dressel will be in the pool aiming for his first gold in Paris. Katie Ledecky will also be in the pool today. Other medal events include skateboarding, men’s and women’s cycling, rugby 7’s, judo and fencing. Tennis also gets going, while the U.S. men’s soccer team plays its second match against New Zealand.
Elsewhere, the U.S. men’s volleyball team will begin play against Argentina this afternoon.
