(Wakonda, SD) — Hemp is a growing industry in South Dakota. According to the state’s Industrial Hemp Association, there are 35-hundred acres planted in the state this year. Farmers in Wakonda say they’ve added hemp to their crop rotation because it prevents weeds from growing in the area. They then use the hemp for things like animal bedding and building insulation, but it can also be sold for use in textiles, flooring and more.
