(Irene, SD) — A preliminary report shows last month’s deadly plane crash in Yankton County was not caused by engine trouble. Sixty-seven-year-old Charles Lawrence Schneider of Sioux Falls was killed the morning of July 31st when his single-engine Piper plane crashed into a bean field near Irene. While there appeared to be no issues with the plane’s engine, the NTSB’s report revealed a break in the aileron drive control cable that was consistent with overload damage.
