(Vermillion, SD) — The University of South Dakota football team is back home after the Coyotes’ game at Portland State was cancelled. A Portland State news release says members of its football team was exposed to whooping cough, which is an extremely contagious disease. After discussions by team doctors for both schools, Portland State announced the game would not be played “in the interest of the health of the student-athletes.” USD athletics director Jon Schemmel said in a statement they’re “disappointed for their players,” but they “respect” Portland State’s decision. Schemmel added there “will not be any attempt to reschedule or add a game.” The sixth-ranked Coyotes host Drake this Saturday.
