AG Jackley Talks Priorities For Legislative Session

(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota Attorney Marty Jackley is sharing his priorities for the upcoming legislative session. Jackley’s set to introduce seven new bills he has backed. He says a lot of the focus is on tightening up financial happenings in the state as a response to several recent cases of state employees allegedly misusing public money. One of the bills would set up mandatory reporting rules, and another would protect a state employee if they report a crime. As for possible justice system changes, one bill would drop a requirement to sentence certain offenders to probation if they were already on probation or parole when committing a crime. Jackley’s specific example is the death penalty case after Moody County Sheriff’s Deputy Officer Ken Prorok was killed last year. The upcoming legislative session begins next Tuesday in Pierre.
