(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is delivering what is likely her final State of the State address in Pierre. Her speech yesterday marked the beginning of the state’s 100th Legislative Session. But it turned more into a farewell as Noem is set to become the new Homeland Security Secretary if approved at her confirmation hearing on Friday. Lieutenant Governor Larry Rhoden is next in line to succeed her as the state’s chief executive. Yesterday, Governor Noem gave him a baseball bat with the message that it is his turn, as well as the 100th legislatures’ turn, to step up to the plate in her absence. Noem went on to tout a list of things she is proud of in regard to her legacy in South Dakota.
