New Bill Would Help Fight Food Insecurity In North Dakota

(Bismarck, ND) — State lawmakers are considering a bill that would allocate money to fight food insecurity in North Dakota. House Bill 1143 would take ten-million dollars from a state reserve fund to create a grant program for those who distribute food donations. The bill would require grant recipients to match every dollar of state funding with a dollar of non-state funding. In written testimony presented Thursday, the CEO of Great Plains Food Bank said about 156-thousand North Dakotans visited a food pantry or soup kitchen last year, which is a record-high for North Dakota.
