(Washington, DC) — South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem was on Capitol Hill Friday to face questions as she seeks to be confirmed as the new secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. She appeared before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. President-elect Trump appointed Noem last November. In her opening statement, Noem said, “Securing our homeland is a serious, sacred trust that must be relentlessly pursued and can never be taken for granted.” She added, “As a nation, we have the right and responsibility to secure our borders against those who would do us harm.” Trump is expected to formally nominate Noem to lead Homeland Security after he takes office today.
