(Grand Forks, ND) — A Grand Forks family is suing the Mayo Clinic after their daughter became paralyzed following back surgery. The Barton family claims that surgeons at the Rochester medical facility failed to protect 14-year-old Kayla Barton’s spinal cord during several corrective surgeries, and left her paralyzed from the waist down. Barton’s parents say they filed the suit in Minnesota this month because their daughter is now facing a lifetime of expensive medical care and support. They are claiming damages “far exceeding” the minimum 75-thousand dollars required for filing a case in federal court.
