(Sioux Falls, SD) — The proposal that would require the Ten Commandments to be displayed in every South Dakota classroom is gaining ground. Sponsored by Republican Senator John Carley, Senate Bill 51 passed with a 4-3 vote in a Senate Education hearing yesterday. Carley says the document has played an important role in American history. It also used to be in school textbooks for several years. If the bill is eventually passed into law, classrooms would have to put up a poster of the Ten Commandments no smaller than eight by 14 inches.
