(Washington, D.C.) — Kristi Noem is moving on to D.C. as the new Secretary of Homeland Security. The U.S. Senate came to a favorable 59-34 vote, including nods from seven Democrats, to conclude Noem’s hearing on Saturday. She’s now just the second South Dakotan to be selected to a Presidential cabinet position. Larry Rhoden received Noem’s resignation as governor and succeeded as South Dakota’s new governor following the Senate vote. Senate Majority Leader John Thune, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson and Senator Mike Rounds each took to social media to congratulate Noem on her new position. Noem made a post herself thanking President Trump for his confidence in her and repeated her promise to work on making America safe.
