Latest On Prison Funding Bill

(Pierre, SD) — Governor Larry Rhoden is pushing for the bill that would approve the funding and construction for South Dakota’s new men’s prison to make it to his desk. The House State Affairs Committee sent House Bill 10-25 to the Appropriations Committee on Wednesday. Governor Rhoden says it’s urgent that lawmakers get it done, adding “we will cost the taxpayers of this state tens and tens of millions of dollars by not getting this across the finish line.” Other lawmakers still have concerns about future operating costs while residents in Lincoln County and county continue to fight against the location of the project. House Appropriations is expected to take up the bill soon.
