(Belcourt, ND) — Leonard Peltier is speaking out for the first time since returning home to Turtle Mountain. The Native American activist was pardoned by former President Biden last month after spending nearly 50 years in prison for two murders his supporters say he didn’t commit. Peltier spoke to his supporters Wednesday at the Sky Dancer Casino in Belcourt, and said he was “totally shocked” by the support, and has a hard time trying to keep himself from crying. Peltier said, “I made sure all Indian issues were the top subject in all my protests and all my activism.”
